Top-quality communication skills remove obstacles to communicating with people with dementia

The ability to communicate effectively with a person with dementia enriches the life of that person and reduces stress on caregivers (Livingstone et al, 2014). The healthcare assistant (HCA) provides a great deal of care to people with dementia. The self-aware HCA who is educated and supported can hear the voice of the person with dementia and provide sensitive, compassionate, person-centred care.
