Flying high for heart failure: considerations for air travel
As the general population appears to be living longer and developing multiple health conditions, the popularity of travelling by air to different destinations is also increasing. Therefore, it is of paramount importance to understand patients' cardiovascular condition in relation to the abnormal environment experienced by the body during air travel. Understanding the physiological adaptations that occur during flight should make it easier to properly prepare patients with heart failure prior to flight, reducing any in-flight exacerbations and creating an overall positive flying experience.
