Non-medical use of prescription opioid drugs by the millennial generation has been an ongoing topic in modern literature. Recent increases in mortality and morbidity related to prescription drug abuse have indicated the need for increased research and allocation of resources. This article provides a review of current literature on non-medical use of prescription drug use within this population, focusing on factors that predispose millennials to prescription opioid misuse, methods of obtainment, related health consequences, and the implications within communities and schools.
